Roots and beginnings
By uniting experienced professionals and with a desire to guide and develop the bread market in Latvia, in the mid 1990’s Hanzas Maiznīca introduced itself as the bread market leader. By working purposefully and setting a new benchmark in the bread market, this position has been successfully maintained.
The company has three production units, two of which are in Riga and one in Rezekne. Every day Hanzas Maiznīca bakeries produce about 90 tonnes of bread product. The company provides its customers approximately 45 different types of bread and 30 frozen products.
Hanzas Maiznīca has been in the Latvian bread market with this name since 1994. The major shareholder of Hanzas Maiznīca is one of the leading bakery companies in Finland VAASAN Oy. The number of employees at the company is stable – approximately 600 employees.

Competence
In many fields Hanzas Maiznica has been innovator – first to bake toaster bread, rye slices, sandwich breads, bread with grains and seeds; first to use packaging bags; and first to distribute easy-to-eat sliced bread.

Charity and supporting
Since 1996 Hanzas Maiznīca has implemented a charity programme to supply fresh bread to numerous care centres for the disabled and foster homes across Latvia. The year 2009 is allready the third year since Hanzas maiznīca is supporting a Nordea Riga Marathon.
